Attacks on Supreme Court judges are unnecessary – Mahama

President John Mahama has described the recent attacks on the Justices who sat on the election petition case as unnecessary.

‘I believe that the current commentary that is going on about the justices of the court and all that are absolutely unnecessary’ the President said.

A number of people including lawyer for the third respondent in the election petition case, Tsatsu Tsikata has attacked the integrity of some of the judges who sat on the case.

According to the President, since the court has decided already, ‘it is necessary that we put the past behind us and rally together as a nation because a lot of work has to be done to make the country a better place.’

President John Mahama said this when a delegation of Muslim chiefs led by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharabutu paid a courtesy call on him at the Flagstaff House on Wednesday.

The visit by the Muslim delegation was to congratulate the president on his judicial victory.

In response to the congratulatory message, President Mahama indicated that he ‘is focused at working diligently and dedicatedly to achieve the objectives that he has set for himself ‘as well as what the people of Ghana demand of him.

The President thanked the Supreme Court judges for what he described as an excellent job done all through the eight months.

‘We want to congratulate the judiciary for the work that they did and I believe that all of us must look forward and work so that our nation grows great and strong’ he stated.

The President also thanked all the religious bodies as well as other traditional leaders who played vital roles in advocating for peace.

The Chief Imam on his part prayed for the blessings of Allah for the President.

Spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Aremeyaw lauded the President for not encouraging his followers to celebrate the victory in a provocative manner.

‘We draw great inspiration from your wisdom, maturity and courage to overcome the temptation of celebrating the victory in a provocative passion after a long period of legal consultation that ended in your favour’ he indicated.

Sheikh Aremeyaw tasked the President to heed to his open declaration of an all-inclusive government because ‘it is only an inclusive approach to governance that can reduce the prevailing political polarization and foster the much needed unity which is critical for our national growth and development.’
